Information for Your Electrician
This page sets out everything a licensed electrician needs to quote for and install a Tornado Body Dryer. It is written to be forwarded or printed — there is no marketing on it.
Electrical supply required
- Dedicated 220–240V circuit. The unit draws 12.8 A, 2.9 kW nominal.
- Comparable to the circuit used for an electric range, a clothes dryer or an EV charger.
- GFCI protection is recommended.
- Installation must comply with the National Electrical Code and all applicable state and local codes, and must be carried out by a licensed electrician. The unit is not designed for owner installation.
- Approximately 0.15 kWh per three-minute drying cycle. The dedicated circuit is for safety and isolation rather than capacity.
Connection
Approximately 1 m (39 in) of wiring exits the top cap of the pod for the electrician to terminate. The unit is hardwired with an accessible means of disconnect. It is not fitted for a standard 120V receptacle.
Remote switch
The wall switch is not an electrical switch. It is a pneumatic (air-pressure) switch connected to the pod by a PVC hose, so there is no wiring at the switch position and no electrical component within the user’s reach. It can therefore be mounted wherever is convenient on the shower wall, including at seated height for a wheelchair user. One press gives moderate airflow, a second press full airflow, a third turns it off.
Mounting
- Wall bracket fixed at 78 in (198 cm) from the floor and 5.3 in (13.5 cm) from the corner, into a suitable fixing.
- The pod hangs from the bracket; the leg sections connect below it down to the floor.
- Minimum recommended enclosure 36 x 36 in.
- Use non-ferrous, corrosion-resistant fasteners only.
Mechanical assembly
The bottom leg section may be shortened by a maximum of 17.3 in (44 cm) to suit a raised shower base or a lower ceiling. Never cut across the teardrop-shaped air pores. Cut in the solid section only; the airflow pattern is then unaffected. Apply a bead of heat-resistant silicone at the collar before fixing the leg.
Ingress rating and position
The unit is rated IPX4, meaning splash-resistant. It is designed to be installed inside the shower enclosure or wet room, but it must not be positioned in the direct shower spray.
Typical time on site
Most licensed electricians complete the electrical work in one to two hours. The mechanical assembly of the unit takes under an hour on top of that. Where a new dedicated circuit has to be run from the panel, allow for that separately.

Documents
The Tornado Body Dryer is not UL Listed or ETL Listed for North America. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with the NEC and applicable state and local codes. A permit and inspection may be required in your jurisdiction.
